All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. But one faery in particular refuses to leave her alone. Keenan the Summer King is convinced beyond all reasoning that Aislinn is the queen he has been seeking for nine centuries. What's a 21st-century girl to do when she's stalked by a suitor nobody else can see?
Review:
I really would love to give you all small synopsis on the book, but I really don't know where to start, so I'll just get to the point.
Aislin can see faeries.
Faeries are stalking Aislinn.
Keenan needs a Queen.
Keenan needs Aislinn.
Got it?
...Yeah.
The book starts off with Keenan and Donia. Donia is one of Keenan's many "lovers." You see, Beira, Keenan's mother, as well as the Winter Queen, has overpowered the Summer King, Keenan's father, and has taken most of Keenan's power. In order to restore his power, Keenan must find a queen. The only way to find a queen is to have a mortal girl touch the Winter Queen's staff.
That's where Donia comes in. Keenan told her that she will become the queen, but when she touched the staff, she turned into the "Winter Girl." In other words, she is cursed with eternal cold until another touches the staff.
Oh, and if you refuse to touch the staff, you turn into a Summer Girl...or, really, a whore.
It's a lot better than it sounds, I promise.
So, anyway, centuries later, Aislinn comes in. Keenan is conviced she is "the one," but since she can see the fey, she wants nothing to do with him. She only wants to be with her friend...boyfriend...FWB...Uh, Seth.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I picked up this book, but the prologue really drew me in. After that, well...
Nothing happened.
Most of the book was just Aislinn whining about how she wants Seth, but doesn't want to ruin their friendship by having sex with him. Sweetie, if you don't want to have sex with him, don't. He obviously doesn't have a problem waiting for you, as he's stated he's already waited for months.
That brings me to Seth, our hard-core goth metal-face. Really, he's just a wish-washy mess. All I know about him is that he is a good lay and he cares about Aislinn. The things he says, though...Ugh. He says something caring, and then hints that he's waiting for her to have sex with him. Come. On.
THIS is why I like Keenan. Yes, he starts off seeming manipulative and cruel, but he really isn't. I just felt sorry for him, because the one girl he does truely love, he can't have, and the girl he needs to save his people wants nothing to do with him. AND his mother pretty much wants him dead. :(
Same with Donia. Yes, she tries to deny it, but she still loves Keenan after what he's put her through.
I looked foward to reading chapters in Donia's and Keenan's POV's.
Our antagonist, Beira, was...meh. More crazy than evil. And really...chipper. Like...

The ending was...frustrating. Aislinn and Seth were able to be together, but nooo...more complications for Keenan and Donia, even after thinking they could finally be together.
They better get together in Ink Exchange. >:(
All in all, it wasn't a bad book, but...It could have been better. The writing was amazing, except for a couple grammatical errors. It was a tad humorous at points, but I do believe I was rooting for the wrong people.

I was rooting for Keenan also- just didn't like Seth. Don't know if I will read book 2 though as it moves into an added main character.....
ReplyDeleteI know right? There was just something off about Seth. And, I'm in the middle of the second book. It has interesting parts, but it is kind of boring.
